“Rio” Leads Weekend Box Office with $40 Million

The animated film “Rio” topped the box office over the weekend, breaking a bit of a slump the film industry has faced in 2011.

The film, which features the voices of Anne Hathaway and “The Social Network” star Jesse Eisenberg, led the box office with an estimated $40 million, according to the Associated Press.

“Rio” tells the story of Blu, a domesticated macaw from Minnesota who meets the fiercely independent Jewel and together the birds go on an adventure to Rio de Janeiro.

“The movie is so wonderful,” Eisenberg told OnTheRedCarpet.com at the film’s premiere. “The thing, you know, I love about it the most, it discusses the preservation of the environment, the protection of endangered species but if you’re a child and don’t know what those words are — the animation is the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen.”

Ellen DeGeneres – April 13, 2011

Anne dropped by the Ellen DeGeneres Show yesterday and I’ve added the video below for you to watch. Will have screencaptures up ASAP.

The Dark Knight Rises To Shoot In Pittsburgh

Christopher Nolan’s forthcoming Batman movie ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ will shoot in Pittsburgh this summer.

The forthcoming epic – starring Christian Bale as the Caped Crusader and Anne Hathaway as Catwoman – will head to the north eastern US city for four to six weeks because of the city’s architecture.

Christopher said in a statement: “Pittsburgh is a beautiful city. We have been able to find everything we were looking for here and I am excited to spend the summer in Pittsburgh with our final installment of Batman.”

Location scouts have decided on shooting in the Downtown part of the city, with Dawn Keezer from the Pittsburgh Film Office confirming the crew “fell in love” with the area.

She said: “They’re still nailing down actual locations but what they really fell in love with was the diversity of the architecture and the gorgeous buildings that we still have in Downtown Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas.”

Little is known about the storyline to the film, which also stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tom Hardy – and is due for release in summer 2012.

It was thought it would be the third and last time ‘Inception’ filmmaker Christopher would be working on a Batman movie, but Warner Bros. president Jeff Robinov recently claimed he may return to reboot the franchise as a producer.

He said: “We have the third Batman, but then we’ll have to reinvent Batman. Chris Nolan and Emma Thomas will be producing it, so it will be a conversation with them about what the next phase is.”

Anne Hathaway’s Glee Cameo

Oscar beauty Anne Hathaway has been reported to appear on Glee since December, and her cameo may now be further postponed until the third season.

E! Online’s Brad Falchuk says the Glee team is “trying to make it happen”.

“She’s got a pretty tight schedule,” Falchuk explained. “So we don’t know if it’s going to happen this season.”

In a character created by Hathaway herself, she will play Chris Colfer’s aunt, and will be a lesbian in the role. So for at least one episode, the show will actually have some straight men tuning in.

Ryan Murphy previously said of Hathaway’s cameo: “We love her.”

Who doesn’t? We can’t wait to see Hathaway Gleek out!

“Love And Other Drugs” Screencaptures

Hey everyone! I just added some blu ray quality screencaptures of Anne from her film “Love and Other Drugs” to the gallery. I haven’t managed to catch the movie yet but it looks like its quite good. Going to rent it this week!

Anne Confirms She’ll Play Catwoman, Not Just Selina Kyle

Although we’ve known since mid-January that Anne Hathaway will play Selina Kyle in The Dark Knight Rises, there remained some question as to whether we’ll see the character’s alter ego in director Christopher Nolan’s film. After all, the Warner Bros. press release didn’t mention the word “Catwoman.”

But in an appearance on Oprah Winfrey’s post-Oscar special , the actress seemed to confirm she’ll don the catsuit in the Warner Bros. movie. She said “Catwoman,” in any case — twice.

Giving Winfrey “the real story” about being asked to co-host this year’s Academy Awards ceremony, Hathaway said, “So the real story is, I was waiting to hear if I’d been cast as Catwoman. And my manager called me, and said ‘Are you sitting down?’ And I just go, ‘Oh, my God, here it comes.’ And she says ‘You’re about to hear something you will never hear again in your whole life.’ I’m like, ‘Okay.’ And she goes, ‘You’ve been asked to host the Oscars.’ And I’m like, ‘I’m Catwoman! … What? … Oh. Oh. Okay. What?’”

Hathaway will star opposite Academy Award winner Christian Bale and Tom Hardy in The Dark Knight Rises, which begins filming in April. We’re still awaiting confirmation on Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The film opens on July 20, 2012.
