Anne in 2016: A Year in Review

With 2016 coming to an end, I decide to put together a summary of Anne’s professional activities this year for a – hopefully – new feature for the website named ‘A Year in Review’.

Anne got pregnant last year, during ‘The Intern’ promotional tour, so this year we didn’t have many public appearances of her out and about.

The first new we got from Anne was the announcement of her becoming the brand ambassador for Chinese eyewear brand Bolon. The advertising campaign launched across TV, digital, print and in-store.

On January 16, THR reported that ‘The Shower‘ was going to be picked by Warner Bros. The project was announced in August 2015 and Anne is set to produce and star it. We didn’t have any more news about it since, and it’s not even listed on Anne’s IMDb page.

Anne’s first public appearance (not considering the paparazzi pictures here, of course!) was on St Jude’s Benefit held at Los Angeles Convention Center in LA, on January 28. She was joined by her better half Adam, and looking amazing in a Marc Jacobs mini-dress. This is by far my favorite red carpet look of 2016!

On February 28, Anne attended the Vanity Fair Oscar after-party wearing a beautiful black Naeem Khan dress with a studded sheer gold overlay. This would be her last appearance before giving birth.

Anne gave birth to a baby boy named Jonathan Rosebanks Shulman on March 24. Since the start of her pregnancy she kept very private about it, but decided to break silence with a empowered picture on her Instagram. According to her, she would be photographed anyway and it was fair if the very first image of her baby bump to surface would be one taken with her consent.

With things still quiet on Hathawayland due the new mom thing, we just got news on her professional side again in May. It was reported that Anne is going to star in and produce a cinematic adaptation of the one-woman drama Grounded, which she starred on stage in 2015. The project might still be in earlier talks because nothing else has been said about it since then.

On May 13 Anne attended an ‘Alice Through The Looking Glass’ Event At Roseark. The film was released on May 26 and received a very hard time by the critics. Despite that, grossed over $260 millions at the box office worldwide. Anne did a few rounds to promote the film, doing several press interviews and including an interview to Late Late Show with James Corden – in which she SLAYED again at the Drop the Mic segment.

Anne attended the world premiere of Alice Through The Looking Glass on May 23, finishing the press tour for the film.

On June 11 was revealed that Anne took part at ‘At the Ballet‘ project, alongside Barbra Streisand and Daisy Ridley. A behind the scenes video with Anne recording her part was also released, and its precious!

On June 15 Anne was announced as the Global Goodwill Ambassador for UN Women, where she’ll help spotlight the issue of gender equality.

On July 20, the Princess Diaries director Gary Marshall passed away. She did a beautiful and heartfelt post on her Facebook page about him.

On August 19 Anne was announced as part of the Ocean’s 8 cast, alongside Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Sarah Paulson, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling and Awkwafina. The film received a June 8, 2018 release date, with The Hunger Games’ Gary Ross directing, and Steven Soderbergh – which directed Ocean’s Eleven – producing. The film is being filmed in New York and Anne was spotted on set several times between November and December.

In September Anne was announced as joining the adaptation of Live Fast Die Hot, based in a Jenny Mollen’s NYT bestseller that was recently published.

September is also time for the film festivals, and Nacho Vigalondo’s Colossal, the indie drama starring Anne, Jason Sudeikis and Dan Stevens started to being promoted. On September 8 it was announced the film was going to close the Fantastic Fest. Right after, it was announced its participation on TIFF, the famous festival based in Toronto.

With the announcement, came the first look released by Entertainment Weekly.

While on TIFF, Anne attended several interviews until the premiere, that took place on September 10. To check it all, you can see our ‘Colossal‘ tag for a complete TIFF coverage. Right after the premiere, it was announeced the film was sold to a mystery Chinese buyer.

In October Anne decided to join the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign. Very engaged on her social media, she participated of Stronger Together: Broadway for Hillary on October 17. Anne presented alongside Kelly O’Hara the song “Get Happy / Happy Days Are Here Again”.

On November 2, as pictured above, Anne visited several colleges in Philadelphia to support Hillary, and became instant trend on Twitter when serenade ‘Happy Birthday’ to one of the students.

On November 17 Anne and Adam attended the Guggenheim International Gala, followed by the Winter Wonderland ball on December 10, closing the public appearances for the year.

For the next year, Anne might be finishing Ocean’s 8 filming, and then start working on Live Fast Die Hot. We also might hopefully have a release date for Colossal and the promotional tour for it. Let’s not forget that Colossal will premiere on Sundance festival, under the ‘Spotlight’ program, which is a tribute to the cinema Sundance loved the previous year.

So, that’s it! This is our last update of the year and, with it, I want to wish all our visitors a very happy New Year! Thanks for another year, for your visit, your comments, your friendship!

We’ll try to make this an annual series, and I want to give a thanks/shout-out to my friends Frederik from Simply Streep, Lindsey from Rachel McAdams Online and Jess from Glamour Reese for the inspiration on the ‘Year in Review’ special.

To finish, I wish Anne and her family the best in this coming year. Happy 2017!
