In the trailer debut of Serenity, McConaughey stars as a fishing boat captain who gives tours around the peaceful Caribbean island where he lives. His quiet life gets interrupted when his ex-wife (Hathaway) returns, seeking refuge from her abusive husband (Jason Clarke) for herself and her son.

McConaughey plays a fishing boat captain on a small island in the tropics whose reality is altered when his past resurfaces. Further plot details, including Hathaway’s role, are being kept under wraps for now. The supporting cast includes Jason Clarke, Djimon Hounsou, Jeremy Strong, and Diane Lane. The film is currently in production on the island Mauritius.
The movie currently does not have a U.S. distributor, and production is expected to continue through the remainder of the summer.
Deadline is reporting exciting news! According to the website, Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway are in negotiations to star in sexy noir Serenity, written and directed by Steven Knight. Greg Shapiro (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty) and Guy Heeley will produce.
