“Ocean’s 8” Gets Release Date

Warner Bros. has set a June 8, 2018, release date for “Ocean’s Eight,” the all-female spinoff of “Ocean’s Eleven,” according to a THR report.

The spinoff stars Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Sarah Paulson, Rihanna, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling and Awkwafina. The Hunger Games’ Gary Ross will direct, and Steven Soderbergh – which directed Ocean’s Eleven – will produce.

Earlier reports says Bullock’s character will be the leader of a group of thieves and cons who try to pull off a major heist. Production is held to start this month in New York.

(Video) Anne Says She Lied While Pregnant to Protect Her Child

Anne Hathaway insists she’s usually a “very, very bad liar” — except when it came to her pregnancy.

“I get very flushed when I lie, so I am very bad at keeping secrets. People can always tell what’s up,” the 33-year-old actress tells ET’s Cameron Mathison at the Toronto International Film Festival while promoting Colossal. “The only secret that I kept, and I will tell you I got really good at lying, was when I was pregnant.”

She adds, “I lied about everything having to do with it.”

Hathaway explains that she chose to be untruthful about her pregnancy as a way of shielding her child-to-be. “I did not feel like, ‘Oh, I am lying,'” she confides. “It was like, ‘No, I am protecting.'”

She quips, “I am a boxing-out mama bear.”

Colossal, in which Hathaway plays an alcoholic writer who discovers she has a psychic connection with a monster destroying Seoul, South Korea, is slated to hit theaters in 2017.

“Colossal” Sells to Mystery Chinese Buyer

Variety is reporting that a mysterious Chinese buyer has picked up North American distribution rights to “Colossal,” an offbeat monster movie starring Anne Hathaway that opened at the festival over the weekend. No word yet on the identity of the company that put up the money, but it will be revealed in coming weeks when the backers announce an investment in a U.S. distributor. It will get a theatrical release in 2017.

“Colossal” was one of the festival’s hotter targets because it stars Anne Hathaway in a showy role as an alcoholic New Yorker and earned solid notices when it debuted. The film drew interest from other buyers, including indie label A24.

In the movie, written and directed by Nacho Vigalondo (“Open Windows”), Hathaway plays a character who, after getting dumped by her boyfriend, discovers that she can control a creature in Seoul.
